Repost - As the Cucumber Grows

This is a re-post.  I was going to show a picture of the cucumber (lets call it Larry, after a popular kids cartoon character) the day this was posted but got sick with the flu instead.  Good news?  I lost two pounds.  Bad news?  I didn't finish this post, but have an updated post with current Larry the Cucumber picture.

This photo is a repeat.  It is Larry the Cucumber flower from Sunday, July 24th.

Fast forward to July 31st, just a short week later and that Larry is now a moose dropping sized baby cucumber.  Almost edible.

Here is Larry on August 2.  Larry is shaping up to actually be a real beauty.  Maybe I shoulda named the cuke Laura.

Here is Larry, a picture from today, August 9th.  In two weeks and two days Larry really got fat.  Not to mention the plants are taking over the greenhouse!  Perhaps a small jar of lemon cuke fridge pickles are in order.

These true lemon cuke seeds were a gift from a family friend.  The plants are very vigorous and healthy.  I would save Larry for seed.  To keep the plant productive I'm going to eat it.  There are other cukes I can save on one of the six other plants.

I broke my no chemical rules and fed Larry with Miracle Gro.

Moose dropping N-P-K

According to this UAF link, Moose droppings are this nutritious for your garden, and mine:

"Moose droppings have the following fertilizer equivalent values during the months of May and June: Moisture 74%, nitrogen 2.5%, phosphate (P205) 1.8%, potassium (K20) 1.2%, zinc 0.6%, calcium 1.6% and magnesium 0.7%. The nutrient values for moose droppings during the winter months is less than 50% of the summer values.1"

My take: Moose dropping N-P-K is 3-2-1, according to the pros at UAF. So compost moose poo all you want.
